Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was a disaster and George Lucas had to help fix it

Rise of Skywalker Non-Spoiler REVIEW

A new rumor has arrived and seems to confirm that Disney is desperate for Star Wars episode IX to please fans

Since Star Wars: The Last Jedi – 91% divided fans of the franchise and Han Solo: A Star Wars Story -56% became a huge box office failure, the red lights went on at Disney and it seems they are trying their best to please Star Wars fans with the ninth episode of the saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker . The last rumor in appearing suggests that they had to go to George Lucas to solve the problem posed by the first projections.

As always, the rumors must be taken with some skepticism and never as confirmed truths, but when revealed by the rumors is contrasted with truthful information about the current state of Star Wars we can know to what extent to believe in the words that are around the Internet, and In the case of the rumor that we come to talk to you, there are certain clues that point to the fact that it can be real. It should also be remembered that many rumors have proved true, so we leave it to the reader’s discretion.

A YouTuber revealed that in the first test projections of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker , the audience (composed of staunch Star Wars fans, casual fans and people who simply know the franchise) gave it a bad grade (29), due to its disappointing third act.

Remember that what you will read next contains possible spoilers, so reading is at your own risk, but here we go. According to the rumor, the worst happened in the final confrontation of Rey against Palpatine, because the heroine defeated him with an exaggerated power and the audience laughed, which angered Bob Iger , CEO of Disney, who was in the projection.

After such humiliation Iger asked for several changes in the feature film so that a second cut was made; the CEO of the mouse company asked director JJ Abrams to put Anakin and Luke in person (“in the flesh”), thanks to which the second screening increased his rating to 65, which was not yet very good, because what they went to George Lucas to help improve the movie.

Finally in the third cut Lucas included elements of the two previous versions and edited the final, introducing a third Skywalker in the third act, and with that a positive reaction and a rating of 88 were obtained. Are there reasons to believe in this rumor? There are and we will present them below.

For starters it was reported a few months ago that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was in intense reshoots. Entertainment journalist Art Tavana even commented on that occasion that George Lucas had been involved in the project to improve things:

They tell me that Disney is re-filming scenes for Star Wars (don’t quote me). Things do not look good. Too many variables and audiences to please. George Lucas as a creative consultant seems very likely, although it is not known how much power he will have in his intervention.

Another reason to believe what is said is that in the first months of the year Making Star Wars , a reliable site that has leaked truthful information in the past, shared a description of the final confrontation against Palpatine and was very different from the two versions that were recently filtered. In the first version Palpatine’s spirit possessed the body of Matt Smith’s character and when he was defeated he later possessed Kylo Ren, who asked the heroine to end his life to destroy the evil Darth Sidious.

In the most recent version of the final, shared by the YouTube channel The Den of Nerds , it is said that Rey and Kylo will face the resurrected Palpatine; in battle Kylo will die quickly and then appear either as a ghost of the Force or just his voice to help Rey regain his power and defeat the villain.

And we have a third version of the Reddit user thebrywalker (via Express), which is almost identical but with differences from the previous one: according to him, Kylo does not die at the hands of Palpatine but falls into a ravine, is saved by the ghosts of Luke and Anakin and returns to battle, where Palpatine is defeated. However, to end the evil once and for all, the evil spirit must be destroyed and that is when Luke and Anakin defeat the villain from beyond.

With all the above we can assume that, perhaps, the end that bothered the fans was where Palpatine possessed Kylo, or perhaps the one who made them laugh was where Rey defeated Palpatine alone in a 1v1 duel, with the help of the voices of the previous Jedi, and after the negative reaction that Bob Iger saw in the audience, Anakin and Luke were added “in person” with a final confrontation to end Darth Sidious.

The good side of all this is that the rumor suggests that the latest version of The Rise of Skywalker is much better than the first two, thanks to the help of George Lucas . We probably never know if the story of the three cuts is true, only time will tell, meanwhile there is only waiting for episode IX of Star Wars to hit theaters.

Wow! Well with what I’ve watched for so called movies in the Star Wars universe since Rogue one( which by my accounts the best Star Wars movie since Empire Strikes Back) all have been pretty forgettable and completely disappointing. So I don’t care if they reshoot “IX” 9X’s Disney better get it right or the money train might come off the tracks…a little. With all the great Books and comics in the Star Wars universe can’t we get more great movies like Rogue One. Hire that director to do more please! Heck I’ll even take animated movies or Cartoons over live one’s because any that I’ve watched with my boys has been great. Just keep trying and more lightsabers and Mandelorians please Disney. Let’s mix in some Imperial Knights!
