Emilia Clarke Reportedly Join Marvel’s Secret Invasion

Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion is apparently snagging some royalty to join its growing cast: The Crown‘s Olivia Colman and Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke.

Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Colman was in talks to join the series, while Variety reported today that Clarke is in “final negotiations” to join the cast. In both cases, their roles are under wraps, and they join Kingsley Ben-Adir, who was also recently in talks to become the show’s lead villain.

The series is set to pick up some of the loose strings left behind by 2019’s Captain Marvel. The series will see Samuel L. Jackson reprise his role of Nick Fury, who played a prominent role in the film, which saw the shape-shifting Skrulls under attack by from Starforce and in search of a new home. Ben Mendelsohn will also reprise his role as the Skrull leader Talos.

The Skrulls played a prominent role in the eponymous 2008 comic crossover, in which they’re working to invade Earth, and have made efforts to replace some superheroes. Given the non-villainous role that they played in Captain Marvel, it will be interesting to see how this series played out, although we’ve seen some hints at what to expect—a Skrull made an appearance at the end of WandaVision, recruiting Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) for a mission in space. Talos and Soren also popped up in a post-credits scene in Spider-man: Far From Home, still working with Fury.

This series is part of a new wave of Marvel shows for Disney+, which includes Armor Wars and Ironheart. There’s no release date attached to any of the shows just yet, but given that the pace of casting seems to be picking up, it’s likely that Secret Invasion will be entering production in the nearish future.
