The CW’s The Flash TV show fires actor Harley Sawyer, who plays Ralph Dibny aka Elongated Man, after racist and misogynistic tweets surface. Sawyer joined The Flash in season 4, playing the ex-cop turned private investigator Ralph Dibny who becomes a member of Team Flash. Sawyer was promoted to series regular starting with season 5 and remained part of the main cast in season 6.

In The Flash season 6, Ralph’s storyline dealt with him tracking down Sue Dearbon, based on the character of Sue Dibny, Elongated Man’s wife, in the DC comics. The Flash season 6 was shortened due to the coronavirus pandemic shutting down production on the series, which meant the season concluded three episodes earlier than originally planned.  However, when The Flash season 7 premieres, Sawyer won’t be returning as Ralph.

Sawyer issued an apology on Instagram, saying in part, “My words, irrelevant of being meant with an intent of humor, were hurtful, and unacceptable. I am ashamed I was capable of these really horrible attempts to get attention at that time. I regret them deeply. This was not acceptable behavior. These were words I threw out at the time with no thought or recognition of the harm my words could do, and now have done today.”
