A Japanese novel, No Game No Life, is written by Yū Kamiya. The story of this anime series tells of how human gamers seek to usurp the throne of game gods through a series of board-game competitions. 

In total, ten novels published between April 25, 2012, and January 25, 2018, was part of the MF Bunko J imprint in the Japanese language. As of 2013, the novels had been adapted into a manga series for Monthly Comic Alive by Mashiro Hiiragi and his wife. Madhouse was announced that year that an anime adaptation of No Game No Life will be developed. From April to July 2014, the show aired on AT-X, and outside Japan, it was simulcast ‌by‌ ‌Crunchyroll.

The Japanese light novel No Game No Life is published in 10 volumes. Manga series are also produced based on the No Game no Life light novels. It appears that despite the show’s popularity, Madhouse does not intend to return to Disboard for more than a film now and then. In any case, this is mere speculation, as Kamiya and Madhouse have not yet formally canceled the show’s production. Due to that, Madhouse fans still have hopes that season two of No Game No Life will be produced soon.

What is the plot of No Game No Life? 

In the world of online gaming, Sora and Shiro are known as Blank, a group of undefeated ‌gamers. Tet, a god from another dimension, challenges them to a game of chess one day. After winning, the two are given a world centered on games as a reward. In what they believe to be a joke, they accept and travel to Disboard, a reality of kindred spirits. Disboard is a place influenced by magical pacts known as the Ten Pledges, which bind the people to not harm one another by allowing them to resolve their disagreements by gambling on a game whose rules and rewards are enforced magically.
